Service Department: "Where Quality Service is a Way of Life"
Our clean, heated shop buildings are fully equipped to perform any and all engine and outdrive related repairs. Our technicians are familiar with systems and engines on everything from 18' runabouts to large trawlers and motoryachts. Fiberglass repairs, as well as other major repairs on boats up to 40’ are performed indoors. In addition to those described below, we can handle most of your boating service needs including: light carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and air conditioning. Our specialized equipment usually enables running gear repairs and cutlass bearing replacement without the need for shaft removal.
Why use our Service Department?
In addition to having factory-trained, certified technicians, and experienced, quality detailers and riggers, our staff is fully insured. We carry general liability, marina operators liability, and workers' compensation insurance. So, if one of our employees happens to get hurt while aboard your boat, you don't have to worry about being sued. If an uninsured "mobile" mechanic gets injured on your boat, you could have a lawsuit on your hands. (Always ask your technician if he is fully insured, including workers' compensation if he has any employees.)
Secondly, we have a Federal Identification Number. We pay our taxes just like you do. If your current mechanic doesn't have a Federal ID Number, he is probably not paying taxes like a legitimate business. Sometimes our prices may seem a little higher, but it's because we pay our taxes and insurance so you are protected. In the long run, we are worth every cent.

We are so confident in our service department that we now provide a 6 month warranty on every mechanical repair on your Mercruiser, Volvo, or Cobra engine or outdrive. In addition, the haulout for outdrive repair is FREE (excluding routine maintenance). Ask your present repair facility about their warranty!
In 2002, we upgraded this 1977 F-32 Trojan with State-of-the-Art Mercruiser 4.2L D-Tronic Diesel engines. The upgrade included new fuel tanks, custom designed fuel delivery system, custom fabricated welded aluminum air intake and exhaust vents, new Mercury instrumentation, King Starboard helm panels, Teleflex controls, "Strong Seals", "Spurs", new shafts and props, polished stainless steel exhaust ports, Charles Battery Charger, and much, much more. The boat now cruises comfortably at over 25 knots, with total fuel consumption under 6 gph. (Prior performance with 318 Chryslers was 40 gph at a top speed of 25 knots.)
In 2001, she was outfitted with a new Sealand Vacu-Flush Sanitation System and holding tank. In addition, the foredeck was re-cored and painted with Awlgrip.
UPDATE TO THE TROJAN RE-POWER
The owner of the F-32 Trojan described above couldn't be happier. With nearly 1000 hours on his Mercruiser Diesel engines, he has not added one drop of oil and has not had one minute's trouble.
In 2004 we installed a new Mercruiser 120 HP 4 Cylinder Diesel in a 1987 Albin 28 Trawler. Replacing an out-dated 76 hp Nissan, this engine job was remarkable. The customer ended up with more room in the bilge, a quieter & more fuel efficient engine, and the ability to cruise at a comfortable 9 knots and run 15 knots at full throttle!
All installation and repair work by Sunset Harbor is performed in accordance with the manual of "Standards And Recommended Practices for Small Craft" as established by the American Boat and Yacht Council(ABYC).

Engines and Outdrives
We offer factory authorized, quality service and repairs on all brands of inboard engines and outdrives including Premier level warranty service for Mercruiser Sterndrives and Diesels and certified service for Volvo Penta Engines and Drives. Since we are a stocking dealer for many manufacturers, the occasional out-of-stock item can be obtained in just a few days. Our goal is efficient, timely service with a minimum of headaches and lost weekends for the boat owner.
Bring us your Mercrsuier or Volvo Warranty service. It doesn't matter where you bought your boat, we are eager to provide the same quality service our customers have come to expect.
We are also the Baltimore Metropolitan area's only factory authorized and trained dealer for OMC Cobra Sterndrives and Engines.

Trailer Inspections and Repairs
Sunset Harbor Marina is now an Authorized Maryland State Inspection Station for all trailers up to 10,000 lb capacity. That includes single and tandem axle boat and utility trailers with or without brakes. Call ahead and schedule your same-day inspection. Best of all, you can keep your boat on its trailer.....just bring it in with a copy of the title or registration and be sure the serial number is clearly legible on the trailer.

As an Authorized Mercruiser dealer, we offer Mercury Marine's Product Protection Plan and the Volvo Penta Extended Warranty Package. "Product Protection starts where the standard warranty ends."

SureSeal® Shaft Seals and Rudder Ports provide a permanently dry bilge. These maintenance-free, 100% watertight products eliminate the headaches and costs associated with dripping stuffing boxes and required servicing of standard, "old-style" shaft and rudder stuffing boxes. We recently completed a Shaft Seal replacement on a Carver 310. You can easily see how difficult it had been for the owner to adjust or re-pack the traditional stuffing boxes.

Bottom Painting and Blister Repair
These services are provided using Sea Hawk barrier coating, along with quality fiberglass repair products. When necessary for the job, we use safe, environmentally-friendly baking soda blasting to completely remove bottom paint. Any sanding of toxic anti-fouling bottom paint is performed using Fein-Vac high efficiency vacuum sanders in order to assure proper collection and disposal of all sanding debris.
Hull Polishing and Detailing
As every boat owner knows, a boat’s hull should be waxed several times per year in order to maintain a good shine. However, few realize that the UV protection afforded by most over-the-counter marine waxes is only effective for about 4-6 weeks too, thereby exposing the finish to the harmful effects of the sun’s harsh rays. The old standby carnuba wax can discolor your hull. Our professionals use Diamond Seal Teflon to provide long-lasting color retention and finish protection for the ultimate care of your boat.
Environmentally-Friendly Bottom Stripping
In our efforts to minimize the effects of boatyard operations on the environment, we provide bottom stripping using only the most environmentally-friendly methods.
Recycling Programs
In keeping with our pledge to be a "Clean Marina", Sunset Harbor participates in the "We Care" program in cooperation with Safety-Kleen, a worldwide leader in the recycling of contaminated fluids. This program of responsible recycling assures that such boatyard materials as waste oil, oil filters, gasoline and anti-freeze are properly disposed of and recycled.
Shrinkwrap Recycling Program
Sunset Harbor is proud to have initiated the Baltimore County Shrinkwrap Recycling Program in 1996, the first such county-wide, private sector/government cooperative effort in the nation. With its overwhelming success and tremendous benefits, this program has kindled similar efforts and become the model for proposed programs in surrounding counties and other jurisdictions.
